How to Recommend Travel Options Without Sounding Pushy

Jul 17, 2025

One of the most common fears new travel agents have is this:

“What if I sound salesy or pushy?”

Here’s the truth:
You’re not here to sell. You’re here to guide.

When you recommend travel options that actually fit your client’s needs, you’re not pushing, you’re serving.

Let’s talk about how to do that with confidence and care.

Step 1: Lead With What You Heard

Before you even suggest a single itinerary, pause and reflect back what you’ve learned in your client consult.

“Based on what you shared, especially wanting a relaxed vibe with great food and a few excursions that don’t feel rushed, here’s what I’d suggest…”

This step is powerful. It shows that you listened. It reassures them that your suggestions are coming from understanding, not upselling.

Step 2: Offer a Few Thoughtful Options

In Module 5 of Travel Genius Coaching, I show you how to select 2–3 solid choices that align with your client’s priorities. That’s the sweet spot.

Too many options create overwhelm. But a few curated choices? That creates clarity.

“Here are two resort options that match your travel dates and your wishlist. I’ve included a quick breakdown of why I think each one could be a great fit for you.”

This positions you as a trusted partner, someone who’s done the heavy lifting for them.

Step 3: Stay Focused on Service, Not Selling

You don’t need to convince anyone. You simply need to explain how each option meets their goals, and stay available to answer questions.

“There’s no pressure to decide today. I’m here to help you feel great about your choice. Let me know what feels like the best fit, or if you’d like to tweak anything.”

This is how trust is built.

When you guide from a place of service, your clients feel it. They stop seeing you as “a travel agent” and start seeing you as their trusted travel advisor.
