How Much Time Does It Really Take to Run a Travel Business?

If you’re thinking about becoming a travel advisor, but wondering how much time it really takes, you’re not alone.

Maybe you’re working full-time, raising a family, or balancing other responsibilities, and asking:

“Do I even have time to build this?”

Here’s the truth:

YES, you can build a travel business on your schedule.
But just like any business, it takes intention, structure, and smart use of your time.

Let’s break it down.

What to Expect in the Beginning

In the early stages, expect to spend about 5–10 hours a week setting things up.
That includes:

  • Choosing a host agency
  • Registering your business
  • Learning the basics of quoting and booking
  • Building a simple brand presence (like your email and social profiles)

This is exactly what I guide you through in Travel Genius Coaching, so you’re not wasting time trying to piece it together on your own. My program helps you focus on what needs to be done, in the order necessary, to get your business up and running.

Don’t have 5-10 hours a week? No problem. Want to ramp up faster so you can get started making reservations? No problem! It’s YOUR business and you get to take it at the speed that works for you!

Once You're Up and Running

Many agents work 10–20 hours a week and build solid income, especially if they focus on cruise or group travel, where commissions are higher and bookings are more efficient.

The beauty? You can do it in blocks that work for you. Early mornings, nap time, evenings...it’s flexible!

The Game Changer? Systems.

With templates, workflows, and repeatable processes, you can save hours each week.
(That’s what we build in Module 6 of Travel Genius Coaching, so you can serve well without being “always on.”)

You don’t need 40 hours a week. You need a clear plan, a few consistent hours, and support that helps you use your time wisely.

Whether this is your side hustle or your dream full-time business, you get to decide how it fits your life.

And I’ll support you every step of the way.
