From Teacher to Travel Pro: My Story and What It Taught Me
May 20, 2025
I never planned on becoming a travel agent.
Back in 2006, I was a teacher, a job I loved in many ways. But like so many women balancing work and motherhood, I hit a wall. I was pouring everything I had into the classroom and coming home with nothing left in the tank. I realized I couldn’t be both the teacher I wanted to be and the mom my kids needed. Something had to give.
That’s when I started asking questions. What else is out there? What if I could create something of my own? Something that would let me be present for my family and still do meaningful work?
The answer came in a form I didn’t expect: travel.
At the time, I was the friend who loved planning every detail of our vacations. I'd light up at the chance to map out a road trip, compare cruise itineraries, or pick the perfect Disney resort. One day, someone said, “You know you could do this for a living, right?” And that was it. The spark was lit.
In 2009, I started Dreams Delivered Travel with the modest goal of one booking a month. Just one. I figured I’d grow it slowly, learning along the way. I wasn’t trying to build an empire. I just wanted a business that fit my life.
Fast forward to today: I’ve served thousands of clients, sailed on 35 cruises, visited 50 countries, and built a travel business that brings in over a million dollars a year in sales. I’m honored to say I’m in the top 4% of my host agency, and am thankful that I get to help other people do the same.
My years as a teacher taught me how to organize systems, explain ideas clearly, and care deeply about the people I serve. All of that shows up in my travel business, and now, in the Travel Genius Coaching program, where I help others get started step by step.
If you’re dreaming of more freedom, more fulfillment, and a career that truly fits your life, know this: it’s possible. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to take the first step.
And I’ll be here to guide you through it.
